Coombe Farm located on
The Calancombe Estate
Our story began in 2012 when Caroline and Lance Whitehead bought The Calancombe Estate in South Devon, located between Dartmoor and the coast and with origins that can be traced back to the 16th century. Blessed with a unique microclimate, south-facing slopes and free-draining soil, the Estate is ideally suited for wine production.
After over a year of research and development at The Dartmouth Distillery Co, 2018 saw us launch Dartmouth English Gin, astonishing the gin world by winning 'Classic Gin of the year', alongside a plethora of other medals. By the end of 2019, we had launched Dartmouth Navy Strength Gin mirroring the smooth characteristics of our flagship product.
Planting of the first parcel of vines commenced in 2013, and we now have 21,500 vines across 23 acres making the Estate one of the largest vineyards in South Devon producing its own wines. Our aim is to produce the finest quality wines and sparkling cider from fruit grown exclusively on our Estate and made in our winery a few hundred yards down the valley from the holiday let properties. The first grapes were harvested in 2017, and our first wines were released in Summer 2019.
